A Deeper Connection

 Dear Douglass True Fans,

Pondering one of life’s greatest mysteries: Does true love exist?

Absolutely. I truly believe you can love someone with all your heart and never stop, even if the path changes. Sometimes, true love might break you in one way, only to transform into a different, equally profound kind of love. It’s like Cinderella’s glass slipper – even if it shatters, the memory of that perfect fit lingers, and maybe you find a really comfy pair of sneakers that are just as perfect in a new way.

Love, to me, is a beautiful exchange. It's something that can be given freely, but also something that’s earned through shared experiences, understanding, and effort. It's definitely not a one-person show! If one person is pouring their heart out while the other is just… standing there like Prince Charming waiting for someone else to do all the work, what kind of relationship is that? That goes for everyone, regardless of gender. I firmly believe a partnership means just that: partners. Equality is key. It’s not one person’s job to "hold the pants" in the relationship – we're all wearing fabulous, equally comfortable trousers these days!

Now, I know history might disagree with my 21st-century woman's perspective. For centuries, love stories often involved knights on white horses rescuing damsels in distress, or arranged marriages where true affection was a happy bonus, not a requirement. Think about Henry VIII and his many wives – I’m pretty sure “equal partnership” wasn't high on his relationship goals! But hey, even in those times, we see glimpses of profound connections. Cleopatra and Mark Antony, for all their drama, certainly had an intense, undeniable bond, even if it ended a bit... tragically. And while Romeo and Juliet might have been a whirlwind of teenage angst, their devotion to each other, however impulsive, is still talked about centuries later.

But then, we have those enduring tales that make us sigh. The steadfast devotion of Odysseus and Penelope, who waited for him for two decades. Or even those unexpected connections, like Belle and the Beast—he certainly had to earn her affection, didn't he? It wasn’t love at first growl! And who can forget the unwavering love of the stable boy for the princess, even when she's stuck in a tower and he's just trying to find a way to get her a decent meal? Those stories, whether real or imagined, remind us that love, in its truest form, requires effort, patience, and a willingness to meet someone halfway.

Honestly, I feel if more relationships operated on a truly equal footing, our society, and yes, even our economy, would be better for it. That's my personal take.

But if true love can transform and evolve, does it ever truly "end," or does it merely change its form, like water to ice or steam?

Sincerely,

Starlight Sparks
